Alternatives has been a leader and innovator among Chicagoโs youth-serving organizations since it was founded in 1971. Alternatives supports and empowers thousands of Chicago youth each year, working to build safer and more vibrant communities. Our staff work throughout Chicago to deliver these programs, both in schools and within the communities. Alternatives has two youth centers, one in Uptown and one in Washington Park.

Staff Demographics
Our staff reflect the young people we serve, with 51%ย identifying as Black, 23% Latinx, 3% Asian and 3% Other/Multi-racial. These are self-reported racial identities of staff. We are also proud to have several former youth on staff. ย
Our 14-member Leadership team is 71% people of color.ย
Of our Board of Directors, 30% identify as Latinx, 25% Black, and 13% Asian.
