Meet Restorative Justice’s Nancy K.!

CAM00238

Welcome back for “Volume 2” of RJ Youth Spotlights! This month, we are featuring Nancy, who graduated from Senn High School in 2012 and participated in the Restorative Justice program for three years.

Most active in the program during her junior and senior years at Senn, Nancy was an incredible mentor to new members and an empathetic listener with all referred students. She even showcased her public speaking skills by volunteering as a youth representative at our annual gala benefit! Now, Nancy is taking a quick break from her studies at Harold Washington College to volunteer with current Senn students in the RJ Peace Room!

Nancy, why do you think RJ is important in schools?

Some people feel like punishment is the answer, but most student’s don’t respond to it. When you do RJ, you get to work on the root of the problem. People feel welcome there. You get to understand why things happened and talk to people one-on-one.

A HUGE thank you to Nancy for volunteering her time! We miss all our members who have graduated and moved on the “bigger” and “better” things. We are lucky to have these powerful and thoughtful young leaders out in the community!
