Have you heard our excellent news? Alternatives, Inc. and VOYCE have received funding to advance efforts in improving health and success for young men of color!

From the Press Release: “The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) announced its support of Alternatives and Voices of Youth in Chicago Education (VOYCE) through Forward Promise, the Foundation’s $9.5 million initiative to improve the health and success of boys and young men of color. Alternatives and VOYCE will receive $500,000 over 30 months to support the Safe Schools Consortium, a new partnership together with the Chicago Teachers Union that will build school-level teacher collaboration and system-level structural reforms to transform school discipline and culture.

Alternatives, the fiscal agent for the Consortium, was one of 10 organizations selected for their innovative community-based programs that strengthen health, education, and employment outcomes for middle school- and high school-aged boys and young men of color.”

“As co-conveners of the Safe Schools Consortium, VOYCE and Alternatives will work with the instructional experts at the Chicago Teachers Union Quest Center to develop the school-level teacher leadership and collaboration needed to transform school discipline policies and practices at three targeted high schools. Dr. Elena Quintana of the Institute on Public Safety & Social Justice at the Adler School will document outcomes to demonstrate the impact of disciplinary alternatives to exclusion while VOYCE will continue to build the student leadership needed to advance structural reforms throughout Chicago Public Schools that support these practices’ long-term success throughout the district.”
