Advocacy-day-2014

The Health Club students from Roosevelt High School attended Advocacy Day on April 1st.  The students met with State Representatives, Maria A. (Toni) Berrios and Jaime Andrade at the State Capitol and had the opportunity to inform them of the importance of voting on a bill that supports school based health centers!

Health Club members explained to their State Representatives how their school based health center serves as a major resource. Some students are uninsured, low income, and/or do not have the means to travel to receive health care services. Students informed the State Representatives of how their school based health center is easily accessible to all Roosevelt High School students because it is located in the school.

Ka Lin, a Roosevelt High School student,  spoke at the rally about her experience using the health center and discussed the difficulties she would have accessing health services, if it weren’t for the health center in her school.
